XAUUSD Pip Calculator (Gold Pip Value)

Work out what a move in gold is worth before you place the trade. Gold is preselected: enter your lot size and the move in pips to see the value in US dollars, Indian rupees (₹) or Nigerian naira (₦). One pip here is a $0.10 move in the gold price, worth $10 on 1.00 lot of 100 oz.

1. Instrument:

ℹ️ 1 lot = 100 oz; 1 pip = $0.10 price move = $10.00 per lot (some brokers count $0.01 as a pip — check yours)

4. Account currency:
Pip value
1 pip on 0.1 lots
$1.00
1 pip on 1 standard lot:$10.00
20-pip move on 0.1 lots:$20.00

Estimate for a USD-denominated instrument. Contract sizes and the pip definition (especially for gold and indices) vary by broker; check the symbol specification in MT4, MT5 or cTrader.

How to calculate pips in XAUUSD

Pips = Price move ÷ $0.10 (example: $2.50 ÷ $0.10 = 25 pips)

Pip value = $0.10 × 100 oz × Lots ($10 per 1.00 lot, $1 per 0.10 lot, $0.10 per 0.01 lot)

Value of the move = Pip value × Pips

Value in INR or NGN = Value in USD × your broker's USD/INR or USD/NGN rate

One standard lot of gold is usually 100 troy ounces, so a $1.00 move in the price changes the value of 1.00 lot by $100. Counting a $0.10 move as one pip, 100 pips is a $10.00 move: $1,000 on 1.00 lot, $100 on 0.10 lot and $10 on 0.01 lot.

Some platforms count a $0.01 move as a pip or point. Under that convention 100 pips is only a $1.00 move, worth $100 on 1.00 lot. The dollar value of a given price move is the same either way; only the pip count changes. Check the contract size and digits in your platform's symbol specification, as a few brokers use 1 oz or 10 oz contracts.

Worked examples

0.01 lot, $1.00 move

  1. $1.00 ÷ $0.10 = 10 pips
  2. Pip value = $0.10 × 100 oz × 0.01 = $0.10
  3. Move = $0.10 × 10 = $1

A $1.00 move on 0.01 lot of gold is worth $1.

0.10 lot, 100 pips ($10.00 move)

  1. Pip value = $0.10 × 100 oz × 0.10 = $1
  2. Move = $1 × 100 pips = $100

100 pips on 0.10 lot of gold is worth $100.

1.00 lot, $2.50 move

  1. $2.50 ÷ $0.10 = 25 pips
  2. Pip value = $10 per pip
  3. Move = $10 × 25 = $250

A $2.50 move on 1.00 lot of gold is worth $250.

0.05 lot, 40 pips, INR and NGN

  1. Pip value = $0.10 × 100 oz × 0.05 = $0.50; move = $0.50 × 40 = $20
  2. At USD/INR 88 (example): $20 × 88 = ₹1,760
  3. At USD/NGN 1,500 (example): $20 × 1,500 = ₦30,000

40 pips on 0.05 lot ≈ ₹1,760 or ₦30,000.

Examples use US-dollar pip values and the contract sizes shown in the calculator; rupee and naira examples use illustrative rates (USD/INR 88, USD/NGN 1,500), not live quotes. Check your broker's contract specification; a gap or slippage past your stop can make the real loss larger.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate pips in XAUUSD?

Divide the price move by the pip size. With a $0.10 pip, a move from 2,400.00 to 2,402.50 (hypothetical prices) is $2.50 ÷ $0.10 = 25 pips. Multiply the pips by the pip value for your lot size ($10 per 1.00 lot) to get the money value: 25 × $10 = $250.

How much is 100 pips in XAUUSD?

With a $0.10 pip, 100 pips is a $10.00 move in the gold price: $1,000 on 1.00 lot, $100 on 0.10 lot and $10 on 0.01 lot. If your platform counts $0.01 as a pip, 100 pips is a $1.00 move, worth $100 on 1.00 lot.

What is the pip value of 0.01 lot of gold?

0.01 lot is 1 oz on a 100 oz contract. A $0.10 pip is worth $0.10 and a $1.00 move is worth $1. Under the $0.01 convention one pip on 0.01 lot is worth $0.01.

Is a gold pip $0.10 or $0.01?

It depends on the platform. Many count a $0.10 move as a pip; some count $0.01. Look at how many decimals your platform quotes for XAUUSD and at its symbol specification, then use the matching pip size. The money value of a price move does not change.

Can I see the gold pip value in rupees or naira?

Yes. Gold is priced in US dollars, so the calculator works in dollars first. Choose 'INR (₹)' or 'NGN (₦)' and enter the conversion rate your broker uses. The starting rates (88 and 1,500) are examples, not live quotes.
