Pip Calculator: Pip Value for Forex and Gold
A pip is the standard unit of price movement. Its money value depends on the instrument, your trade size and, for pairs where the US dollar is the base currency, the exchange rate. Pick an instrument, enter your lots and a move in pips to see what it is worth in US dollars, Indian rupees (₹) or Nigerian naira (₦).
ℹ️ 1 lot = 100,000 EUR ($10.00 per pip)
Estimate for a USD-denominated instrument. Contract sizes and the pip definition (especially for gold and indices) vary by broker; check the symbol specification in MT4, MT5 or cTrader.

Pip value formula
Pip value (USD-quoted pairs, gold) = Pip size × Contract size × Lots
Pip value (USD-base pairs, e.g. USD/JPY) = Pip size × Contract size × Lots ÷ Exchange rate
Value of a move = Pip value × Number of pips
Value in INR or NGN = Value in USD × your broker's USD/INR or USD/NGN rate
For most pairs a pip is 0.0001; for yen pairs it is 0.01. A standard lot is 100,000 units, so on EUR/USD or GBP/USD one pip is worth $10 per lot, $1 per mini lot (0.10) and $0.10 per micro lot (0.01).
Gold (XAU/USD) is usually 100 oz per lot. This calculator counts a $0.10 price move as one pip, worth $10 per lot; some platforms call a $0.01 move a pip or point instead. US30 assumes $1 per index point per lot. Check the symbol specification in your platform.
Worked examples
EUR/USD, 0.10 lot, 30-pip move
- Pip value = 0.0001 × 100,000 × 0.10 = $1
- Move = $1 × 30 pips = $30
A 30-pip move on 0.10 lot is worth $30.
USD/JPY, 0.50 lot, rate 150.00 (hypothetical)
- Pip value per lot = 0.01 × 100,000 ÷ 150 = $6.67
- On 0.50 lot = $6.67 × 0.50 = $3.33
Each pip on 0.50 lot is worth about $3.33.
Gold (XAUUSD), 0.05 lot, $3.00 move
- Pip value = $0.10 × 100 oz × 0.05 = $0.50
- $3.00 move = 30 pips
- Move = $0.50 × 30 = $15
A $3.00 move on 0.05 lot of gold is worth $15.
EUR/USD, 0.10 lot, 25 pips, INR and NGN
- Move = $1 × 25 pips = $25
- At USD/INR 88 (example): $25 × 88 = ₹2,200
- At USD/NGN 1,500 (example): $25 × 1,500 = ₦37,500
25 pips on 0.10 lot ≈ ₹2,200 or ₦37,500.
Examples use US-dollar pip values and the contract sizes shown in the calculator; rupee and naira examples use illustrative rates (USD/INR 88, USD/NGN 1,500), not live quotes. Check your broker's contract specification; a gap or slippage past your stop can make the real loss larger.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate pip value?
Multiply the pip size by the contract size and your lot size. For EUR/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 × 1 lot = $10 per pip. If the US dollar is the base currency, as in USD/JPY, divide by the exchange rate: 0.01 × 100,000 ÷ 150 = about $6.67 per pip per lot.
How much is 1 pip worth on 0.01 lot?
On EUR/USD, GBP/USD and other pairs quoted in US dollars, 1 pip on 0.01 lot (a micro lot) is worth $0.10. On gold with 100 oz per lot and a $0.10 pip it is also $0.10; a $1.00 move in gold on 0.01 lot is about $1.
What is the pip value of XAUUSD?
With 100 oz per lot, a $0.10 move is worth $10 per standard lot, $1 per 0.10 lot and $0.10 per 0.01 lot. If your platform counts a $0.01 move as a pip, that smaller pip is worth $1 per lot. Check the contract size in your platform.
How do I see pip value in rupees or naira?
Pip values on these instruments are in US dollars. Choose 'INR (₹)' or 'NGN (₦)' in the calculator and enter the conversion rate your broker uses; the calculator multiplies the dollar value by that rate. The starting rates (88 and 1,500) are examples, not live quotes.
Why does pip value change on USD/JPY?
On USD/JPY the pip is worth 1,000 yen per lot. Converting yen to dollars depends on the USD/JPY rate, so the dollar value of a pip falls when the rate rises and rises when the rate falls. Enter the current rate from your platform for an accurate figure.
